WARNING

Engaging in certain activities will result in being banned from bidding.

Although the vast majority of our bidders follow the rules, a few do not.  We have adopted a zero tolerance policy on this.  Doing any of the following will cause you to permanently lose your privilege to bid on our vessels.  We will notify Ebay to enforce the ban and will keep track of banned bidders by their real name so changing identities will not get around the ban.  ProjectBoats.net is here to stay and will be expanding so, before doing any of the following, you should seriously consider the ramifications.  Posted 3/31/01.

  • Failure to pay a bid.

  • Bid retractions.

  • Contacting other bidders.

  • Leaving negative feedback.

  • Unbusinesslike conduct.

Explanation:

  1. Failure to pay a bid.  In accordance with our rules, you are not obligated to complete the sale if there has been an error in describing the vessel, however, if the vessel is as described, you are required to complete the sale.  Sellers suffer losses when you fail to pay a bid.

  2. Bid retractions.  Although entry errors do occur, the vast majority of bid retractions are designed to injure our auction.  If you need to make a bid retraction, contact us to do it for you.  For those of you who a) bid for the specific purpose of placing negative information in a retraction to discourage other bidders, b) place high bids early to prevent competitive bids followed by a late retraction and  c) people who bid high to find out what another bidder’s proxy is, then retract - we don’t want your business.  For those of you who are retracting to assist another bidder, we will not sell the boat to the other bidder and both parties will be banned.

  3. Contacting other bidders.  There is no legitimate reason to contact other bidders.  If you wish to contact another bidder, go through us.  Other bidders invariably inform us when they have been contacted so you will be detected.

  4. Leaving negative feedback.  In theory, negative feedback for a seller is supposed to be a warning to others of unscrupulous activity such as accepting payment and then failing to deliver goods.  Negative feedback left for us, however, has always been false and made in bad faith.  We are happy to work out any problem in a reasonable manner, however, we will not be subjected to blackmail and those who leave negative feedback may not do business with us.

  5. Unbusinesslike conduct.  For some people, the anonymity of the Internet puts them on their worst behavior.  If you cannot treat our staff in a courteous and businesslike manner, we do not wish to do business with you.
